Can I contest a divorce decree that I signed 9 years ago?

In 1999 I was legally divorced from the mother or my daughter. At the time I was 22 years old and just out of the Army. I had no legal representation and signed the agreement that was presented to me by her attorney. I recently reviewed this agreement as it pertains to child support. I noticed that the section referencing the length of time that I will be responsible for paying support stated that the payments will continue past the age of 18 as long as my daughter is attending any continuing education. According to the below PA law do I have any recourse to fight this? Since I signed the divorce decree can it now be amended?

In Pennsylvania , child support is payable until a child reaches eighteen years old or graduates from high school, whichever is later. (The Pennsylvania Supreme Court declared that parents cannot be forced by a court to pay for college expenses of a child unless the parent has signed a written agreement providing for college support.) However, a duty of support may continue beyond the age of eighteen, if a child is unable to support himself or herself because of a physical or mental disability. The amount of child support that is payable in a case is based upon the monthly after tax incomes or earning capacities of the child’s parents.

Officer put wrong address on Noise Violation ticket. What do I do?

First, I live in Pennsylvania in a small college town. Police officers here deal with a lot of noise complaints and drinking offenses seeing how there is no real crime in the immediate area.

Last night my roommates and I were having a party when someone called in a noise complaint for the music coming from our apartment. We live on the fourth floor of a very old building so sound doesn’t travel throughout the halls very well. When the officer showed up at our door I stepped out into the hallway to talk to him and closed the door behind me. He asked me for my I.D. but before I gave it to him I asked what he was here for and what I could do for him. He said that he was issuing me a ticket for a noise violation and told me that I needed to get everyone out of the apartment and end the party. I had everyone leave just as the officer said. He told me that the music could be heard half a block away which I know is untrue because it could barely be heard from across the hall. He also wrote on the ticket that the sound “was heard throughout the building” when in fact it was other people on the floors below us having parties as well. The real issue however is the address on the ticket. After giving the officer my information he wrote down the wrong street and the wrong building number. The only part of the address correct was the apartment number.

I am considering contesting the ticket with a non-guilty plea because I have heard that tickets can possibly be dismissed if the officer writes down the wrong information. Is there any truth to this happening? All of my other information is on the ticket so the offense is still tied to my name. Should I simply go to the police station and inform them of the problem?

Any answers to these question would be really helpful as I have no idea what to do. I assume that if I fight the ticket on any stance other than the wrong address I will probably lose because it is my word against the officers. Thanks for the help!

I have a friend who would like to write a will. She does not have a computer (or access to a computer) nor does she have lots of money to go a lawyer.

What is the best way for her to get it set up? Can *I* draw up her will on her behalf, either online or with a software program, send it to her to sign and get notarized and all that?

Note, that I am in Wisconsin, and she is in Maine. I don’t know if that makes a difference.

How do I find a lawyer who will take a case of work place harassment and be paid if we won.?

Accused of disobeying a direct order. Captain argued with is slepping with Project Manager. Previous employees have only received written discipline.

When my grandmother passed in 2005 my dad hired a lawyer who charged him $1000 up font to settle the estate, the lawyer did very little and never returned are calls. About 9 months later my dad passed away. We went to a different lawyer that helped us settled the estates. We also wanted to get our money back from the bad lawyer. We went and filed a complaint threw our local bar association, and to the Supreme Court. We had a hearing with the bar association and before the hearing my mom and the bad lawyer signed a paper saying that the findings of the hearing were legal and binding. They awarded us $750 but that was in February of this year, we have never gotten any money. We called and written letters to the lawyers at the hearing but no one will help us, we even sent a letter to the president of the bar association and nothing. My mom paid an extra $100 to turn the judgment I believe into an order. He still will not pay us and the other lawyer that helped with the estates won’t help us anymore because he isn’t getting any money out of it. My question is who else can we go to? That will actually do something that will actually help us!!!

I am a 22 year old single mom of my 4 year old daughter. Her father is not involved what so ever. He doesn’t see her, support her, nothing. The Psalms1 Mentions the Characteristics of the Last Prophet ??//?

The proofs are many that Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)2 is the last Prophet and the one mentioned in both the Old Testament and the New Testament.3

Psalms are another evidence in this regard. One psalm reads as follows:
“1 My heart overflows with a goodly theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe. 2 You are the most handsome of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever. 3 Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one, in your glory and majesty. 4 In your majesty ride on victoriously for the cause of truth and to defend the right; let your right hand teach you dread deeds. 5 Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; the peoples fall under you. 6 Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever. Your royal scepter is a scepter of equity; 7 you love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions; … 9 daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor; at your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir. 10 Hear, O daughter, consider and incline your ear; forget your people and your father’s house, 11 and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your lord, bow to him; … 16 In the place of ancestors you, O king, shall have sons; you will make them princes in all the earth.17 I will cause your name to be celebrated in all generations; therefore the peoples will praise you forever and ever.”4 (Psalm 45: 1-17)
Christians believe that the above text was a prophecy of the prophet to come, that is, Isa (AS)5 (Jesus) in their belief. As far as Muslims are concerned, they believe that the above descriptions fit Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) more than they fit prophet Isa (AS).
The above text mentions nine characteristics of the prophet to come:

First: he would have more beauty than any human being “You are the most handsome of men.” This cannot be a description of Isa (AS) because Christians believe that the prophecy of Isaiah was realized in Isa (AS), that is, “He has no stately form or majesty That we should look upon Him, Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.”6 (Isaiah 53:2)
Although we disagree with this meaning their scholars asserted more than once. Cleamndous the Alexandrian said, “his beauty was in his soul and deeds, but his look was ugly” while Tartilian mentioned that “he had no physical beauty; in fact, he was far removed from any bodily glory.” If this is their opinion of Isa (AS) how can it be said that he was “the most handsome of men.”7
On the other hand, many proofs are there on the handsomeness of our Prophet (SAWS). Al-Baraa bin Malik, one of his Companions, describes him as follows: “I did not see anybody … looking more handsome than the Prophet. He was not excessively tall or short and had wide shoulders. His hair used to hang down to the earlobes. He was the most handsome man I ever saw.”8
Second: the words of prophethood are delivered verbally by him “grace is poured upon your lips.” This means he is illiterate and his revelation is not written. Isa (AS) was not illiterate: “When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read” (Luke 4:16)
In Deuteronomy, the prophet to come would be illiterate: “I will raise up for them a prophet like you (that is Moses) from among their own people; I will put my words in the mouth of the prophet, who shall speak to them everything that I command.” (Deuteronomy 18:18)
In Isaiah it is written that “The vision of all this has become for you like the words of a sealed document. If it is given to those who can read, with the command, ‘Read this,’ they say, ‘We cannot, for it is sealed. And if it is given to those who cannot read, saying, ‘Read this, ‘they say, ‘We cannot read.’” (Isaiah 29: 11-12) In many versions, the plural pronoun ‘we’ is ‘I’. This is the same expression Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) says to Angel Jibril (AS) (Gabriel) at the Cave of Hira’, that is “I cannot read”.

Third: he is eternally blessed: “God has blessed you forever.”

Fourth: he would have sword by which he would conquer his enemies, “Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one, in your glory and majesty. In your majesty ride on victoriously for the cause of truth and to defend the right; let your right hand teach you dread deeds. Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; the peoples fall under you.” Isa (AS) did not hold a sword or fight any enemy. He did not have the status of a king among his people. On the contrary, Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) fought for Allah9 ’s Cause “In your majesty ride on victoriously for the cause of truth and to defend the right” and he was the leader of his people.

Fifth: he would love good deeds just like all other prophets, but Allah (SWT)10 prefers him, “your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”

Christians:face it accept ! the bible is corrupted no matter how much you try to decorate it?

In Matthew chapter 5 verse 18 we read:

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Basically this verse is talking about the earth and heaven disappearing, meaning the end of the earth, meaning the earth will not last forever.

Here is some Christian commentary on the verse:
Till heaven and earth pass–Though even the Old Testament announces the ultimate “perdition of the heavens and the earth,” in contrast with the immutability of Jehovah ( Psa 102:24-27 ), the prevalent representation of the heavens and the earth in Scripture, when employed as a popular figure, is that of their stability ( Psa 119:89-91 Ecc 1:4 Jer 33:25, 26 ). Another Christian commentary reads:

but all should be fulfilled before “heaven and earth pass” away, as they will, with a great noise and fervent heat, as to their present form and condition; or sooner shall they pass away, than the least part of the law shall: which expresses the perpetuity of the law, and the impossibility of its passing away, and the superior excellency of it to the heavens and the earth. It is a saying of one of the Jewish doctors {g}, that “the whole world is not equal even to one word out of the law,” in which it is said, there is not one letter deficient or superfluous. Basically from this verse we see that the earth will eventually pass away.

However so, the Bible makes the claim that the earth will abide forever:

1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. 3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?

4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

So note according to this Bible chapter and verse, the earth will remain forever!

Also note how it says one generation will go, and another one will come, yet the earth remains forever. This is further proof that the context even shows that the author did specifically believe the earth will remain forever since he says generations come and go, then he says the earth remains.

OK, so this is my email conversation with someone else. I understand if you don’t want to read it.Ok, this will take me awhile to write and you awhile to read, but if your as helpful as i think you could be, it’ll be worth it.

My name is Barney, her name is going to be Kate, for the process of this story.

I’m 16, so is she, we met 3 years ago when she moved to my school. At first we didn’t talk an awful lot but she was a nice person, so i pushed a little and we talked more. About 2 years ago we started talking a lot, most nights infact, generally texting or on facebook chat. Kate was and still is a very attractive girl and she knows it to, and so do alot of guys, so she got alot of interest around school and had a couple serious relationships (about 6-10 months, we are only 16 after all). OK, so I’m a nice person and i could get along well with most people, but i get bullied a fair amount, as people didn’t like me when i joined the school, but Kate was always very nice to me and very caring. So after around 9 months of being good friends i started to have strong feelings for her, but whenever i was asked if i liked anyone, I’d say ‘no’. Stupidly, i was upset one night after a relative died, and i told Kate that i was going to ask her out in 8 weeks, this was a bad idea as she kinda already knew that i liked her in that way, but didn’t know that it had gotten to that point. The next day i told her about me being upset and that what i said was a mistake, so we continued talking but it wasn’t as easy. So soon 8 weeks later i had forgotten about it, but sadly, she and her friends hadn’t, and they were expecting some big romantic gesture from me. I laughed it of and in a couple of days we were back to how things were before. Soon Kate had a boyfriend and he is a nice guy. Ok, so Christmas came round and i bought her a rubber duck, as she collects them, and that was fine, then about 6 months ago she cheated on her boyfriend, of then 5 months, and she covered it up and didn’t tell him. 3 months ago he found out, and they had a fight, but they moved past it and it seemed as if things were fine between them. Then a whole load of rumors came around about her with other guys, and as she was my best friend i stood by her side and dismissed them. 1 month ago we started study leave, in preparation of our exams, so we had alot of free time. Me and Kate hung out a whole lot one weekend and it kinda went like this:

Saturday, 12pm till 7, then 8 till 9.30
Sunday, she came round for breakfast as my parents were out, and we walked into town to buy stuff. So, 8.30 till 12, then 7 till 9.30

OK, so again, i did something stupid, i had such strong feelings for her after this weekend, that i told her how much i loved her, and i truly meant it. She didn’t shoot me down, but just said how much she loved her bf and told me that she thought we should spend sometime apart. I didn’t want this, so after a miserable and lonely week i acted as if nothing had happened, and so did she.

OK, so now we’re almost upto the present day.

2 weeks ago, we had an exam together which finished at like 11am, so i invited her over to watch a film, and she said yes, so we did. We walked from school, through town, back to mine, buying popcorn and coke on the way. We watched the film and at around 2.30, we went upto my room (which we do most of the time when she’s over). We messed around and she put on some of my clothes, basically we had a good time, and occasionally we’d fall on my bed, or on the floor, and just lie there talking. Kate has a knack for making me feel safe, she just likes to lie over me, with her head resting on my furiously beating heart, and she just kinda holds what ever I’m wearing in her hand. She does it with alot of guys but i don’t care, i feel great when I’m around her. I don’t think i can put into words how much she means to me and how close we are. At this point we are best friends, and as she is a very popular girl, this is a big thing for her to tell me. Ok, so after messing around for a couple hours, she has to go back to school (she’s a boarder and lives at school) at 7, so i walked her back and some guys we staring at her so i shouted at them and they stuff back. Some guys i know helped and they left me alone, so i dropped her off at school and started walking back. Fearing that they might confront me again, she asked me to call her when i was home, and after these followed me home, i called her and told her i hadn’t seen them again. At about 9 she came to my house, which i was not expecting, and she said that she was getting a bad vibe from me on the phone and just wanted to check i was ok. Just going back abit, i was good friends with her bf and one day he told me that they had been arguing, and i asked if i could give him some advice, he said yes, so i suggested tha
so i suggested that they take a break, to get the exams out of the way and settle down, basically i didn’t want them to have a stupid argument whilst everyone was stressed and break up.
Stupidly once more, i told her about this conversation and she all but stormed out. I managed to talk her back upto my room and she burst out crying, which i had never seen before, and she told me how she didnt think her bf wanted to be with her anymore. I lied to Kate that night. I told her all the amazing things ‘her boyfriend’ and said to me about her, and the future he wanted with her. I told her all of the feeling i had for her, and all the futures i wanted with her, but i said that they were his words, she even asked ‘are those your words or his?’. i told her that they were his, and ive regretted it everyday since. Is it a reasonable SAT score for my age and considering my preparation?

I´m a 14 years-old girl from Brazil, and I’ve been recently thinking about doing my college on a American University. I was dreaming about going to Harvard or Yale, but I know is extremely hard being accepted in one of them. But, anyway, I found the site college board and I’ve decided to do the Free SAT Practice Test. And these were my results:

Reading 530
Writing 450 (MC: 46, Essay: 6*)
Math 500

I know these scores are not good, actually they are really far away of those required for good institutions. But I was thinking: I haven’t even entered on the high school (this will happen next year), I’ve never studied or read any book for tests like SAT. I don’t even consider me as fluent on English (I think you’ll note that on this question). I’ve done 4 years of basic English on Brasas (I don’t know if this course is known by you americans, is it?), and I think that my English just started to be really understandably this year.
So, I´m kind of happy with my results. I still have three years to study and develop my English. My principal difficulties are with the “Identifying Sentence Errors” and “Geometry And Measurement” parts. I have also some problems with the Passage-Based Reading. Well, there are some things that I ‘d like to know by you:
1) Your opinion about my scores, as I ask on the title of this question.
2) Do you think that in three years of study I have chance of being accepted to Harvard or Yale?
3) If you think that I have chance, what should I do to prepare myself? I’ve been thinking about reading on my vacations (that is now, December and January) some Bilingual books (Portuguese/ English), cause I think I’m not able yet to read all in English. I’ve done a list of books such as Pride and Prejudice, The Picture of Dorian Gray and one from Edgar Allan Poe (actually I’m not sure which one yet, I don’t know very much his literature). I think that reading a lot my English will be better and I´ll solve a lot of problems that I had on some SAT questions. And after, I’ll buy some Preparation SAT books. Will I have time to train during my service in the Navy?

I am going to be a SEAL.
I’ve enlisted into the Navy as an IT. I am wondering if I will have sufficient time to continue training physically during my active service. I feel the necessity to be 10,000% physically ready to successfully and very thoughrouly complete BUD/S. I need extra preparation.
Do most Naval bases have some sort of training facility? I’m sure it depends on where I will be, but in general.
Also, how soon would I be able to apply for SEAL training? Must I finish 4 years? How long am I supposed to work as an IT before I’m allowed to request a change?
I’m dissapointed that I didn’t sort out my goals much earlier, but I realize my fault. If you want to patronize me, feel free.

Taxes with 1099 MISC and out-of state income?

Ok. I’m trying to complete my fiance’s federal, state, and local taxes and it’s very confusing. Here’s the situation:

- He is a resident of PA, however lived (with friends) and worked for 10 months last year in OH
- He has 1 W2 from PA, 1 W2 from OH, and 1 1099MISC from OH

Federal taxes are pretty much taken care of because I did them through TurboTax and it walks you through doing it.

State taxes are complicated. Does he need to file state taxes in both OH and PA (2 separate filings)? If so, do we only report the 1 W2 from PA on the PA filing and the W2 and 1099MISC on the OH filing?

Also, I have the school district local tax form from our PA district, but will his OH wages count for that, or will he have to submit a separate form for OH? And if so, where does that form come from?

I have 2 children age 8 and 13. Their father passed away last month. The girls are eligible for SS survivor’s benefits. I work full time as supervisor and make halfway decent money as well. So there are no other “benefits” involved. I am a single mother, and have always taken good care of my girls, even in past times where we were dirt poor…….I have not eaten many times to make sure they do. So without question I will use this money in my girls best interest. That is not the question here. We live in a tiny apartment with not much furniture, because no space for it. My boyfriend and I are currently buying a nice house (with 100% our money which has been saved for a year, not from gov’t.), and things will be much better for all. Am I allowed to use said survivors benefits toward paying for the house and furnishing, repairs if needed for the first year? How do I properly report this on yearly benefits reporting form that SSA will send out? Also, am I allowed to purchase CD’s to save money for the kids, as they have the best interest yield? If he filed at one point for SSD and was denied, but deemed disabled by a Dr. at time of death (but did not file again) can the girls collect disability money that could be his? He had small cell lung cancer that spread to liver. His initial filing was not cancer, but never bothered filing again because of his initial denial.

HELP ME!!!! I feel selfish to ask…but please…no options left…?

I’m 17 years old, completely miserable. I know most teenagers complain about wanting to leave where they live right? well… My situation is a bit different.. I’ve lived with my paternal grandmother eleven years and I have been depressed and sad since, constant fighting. I cry everyday I barely feel like I am alive anymore. I attempted suicide five times. I’m miserable.. my heart is so lonely. My boyfriend lives in Florida he came here and visited me and stayed with me at my real moms a week ago. ( I can’ stay with her shes poor) He asked me to come with him to FL and I was so close to going. But I figured to many problems would come of that choice.
Anyways my uncle would take custody of me but I know myself that could take years I’ll be 18 in a year… and I am so determined to not live in this horrid putrid house another year. I am to miserable for that. I’m trying to convince her to sign custody to someone… but as we know misery loves company so she needs me to feed into her hate I don’t know. I don’t think I deserve this.. life has always kind of sucked for me… I’m trying so hard right now so hard. I’m so afraid I wont make it. TERRIFIED. I’m not going to give up. But everyday seems to get harder for me. It could take years for my uncle and aunt to get custody… and I am not stupid enough to run away people could get into a **** load of trouble. I don’t see how the court would grant me emancipation I don’t have a job which I am not allowed to get the devil I live with will not let me… I still try though. . and I cannot support myself. My BF wants me to go down to FL to live with him and his mom. I’d finish school there and be so happy…my uncle suggests I go to the probate court to be granted permission to marry my BF..were very in love but I’m only seventeen. how exactly does emancipation work? If I just ran away what would happen? What if I went to court and told them all this? I have a lot of peers and adults taht know how bad things are they can vouch for me. would I be granted emancipation ? Oh god… If we got married then I would be emancipated. What can I do. Staying here is not an option… and to say SUCK IT UP tears me up… I feel pathetic I can’t be here one more year before I’m 18 I’m home schooled online school I have to sit here 5 hours a day with my gramma while she yells at me I CAN’T TAKE THIS!!!!.. for one year all I want is….happiness I feel so selfish.. help me?

Can a mortgage company stil foreclose on my House if?

I was willed a house in March. I have not assumed the mortgage but have been paying it on time anyway. I had an estate attorney send a notice to all possible creditor’s including the mortgage holder. Under Florida Homestead law homestead is not considered an asset and can’t be touched by creditor’s. The mortgage company did not respond to my notice and publication to all possible creditor’s. My attorney has advised me the title to the home is now in my name (probate court). Do I have to pay the Mortgage? If I decided to buy another house do they have any legal right to come after me for the remaining portion of the mortgage? Nothing has been signed and I have not assumed anything.
I do live in the house so Homestead law does apply. The reason I’m even asking this question is because the market has declined so much the home is worth less then the mortgage and the bank holding the note will not work with me at all. Beacause the home wasn’t in my name originally I don’t apply to Obama’s refianance option. So I might just stick to the bank because one, I have allot of money in this bank and two they suck and have been screwing people left and right, TARP bank.
I just realized something, if they foreclose on this house and sell it at a way lower rate then the home is worth, I could buy it back cash and get my equity back and then some. Dirty move, maybe? Even if they try to short sale it, I’ll just buy it for less then the mortgage because I want to keep the home for investment purposes.

What can you do if the will for a multimillion dollar estate does not enter probate?

When I was a child I was the principal heir of my uncle’s estate. I even lived with my uncle for several years at his mansion in Las Vegas. He did not have any children and my parents and brothers were the only living family. My uncle passed away in Clark County, Nevada during February of this year and we have not been notified by the trustees of the estate regarding our inheritance.

My uncle married a much younger woman about 5 years ago and the relationship between her and the family is so strained that we were not invited to the funeral. I live in Florida and just learned of my uncle’s death recently after reading the obituary on the web site for the LVRJ.

At a minimum my uncle had $10 million in municipal bonds and an income from his father’s trust as well as millions of dollars in real estate tied up in multiple states (including his main home in Las Vegas, Nevada).

My brothers and I are worried that the will never entered probate and that my uncle’s wife (who had power of attorney during the last years of his life) is living off of the trust and assets.

Do we have recourse if she never registered the will with Clark County? Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the will.

The Bible (Gospel/Injeel)?

The Bible Does Not Claim Jesus Claimed to Be Son of God :
It is a fact that the words “son of God” are not found on the lips of Jesus anywhere in the first three Gospel accounts, he was always calling himself the Son of Man. And it is a curious form of reasoning that I have seen so often that it is established from Bible that he claimed to be God because – look how the Jews reacted. They will say for example he said such and such and the Jews said he is blaspheming, he claimed to be God and they tried to stone him. So they argue that he must have been claiming to be God because look ! – the Jews tried to kill him. They said that’s what he was claiming. But the interesting thing is that all the evidence is then built on the fact that a person is saying: I believed that Jesus was the son of God because the Jews who killed him said that’s what he used to say ! His enemies used to say that, so he must have said it, this is what it amounts to. In other hand we have the words of Jesus saying he would keep the law, the law of Moses and we have the statement in the Bible, why did the Jews kill him ? Because he broke the law of Moses. Obviously the Jews misunderstood him, if he promised he would keep the law, but they killed him because he broke the law, they must have misunderstood him, or lied about him.

Writers of Bible – Out of Context :
When I talk about the Bible and quote various verses here and there I am often accused of putting things out of context, to say you have lifted something out of what it was talking about and given it a meaning. I don’t want to respond to the accusation as such, but it doesn’t seem to occur to many people that perhaps those who wrote portions of the Bible in the first place were guilty of the same thing. Maybe they – some of those writers – believed a certain thing and in order to prove it quoted from their scriptures – the Old Testament, the Hebrew writings – quoted out of context to prove their point. There are examples of that kind of thing. In Matthew 2 it said that a king wanted to kill the young child Jesus so he with his family went to Egypt, and they stayed there until that king died, and then they came back.

When the writer of Matthew, whoever he was, because the name Matthew won’t be found in the book of Matthew; when he described this event saying that he came back out of Egypt, he said: “ This was to fulfill a prophecy which is written” and then he quotes Hosea Chapter 11 “Out of Egypt I called my Son”. So he said because Jesus went to Egypt and then came back out of Egypt and we have this passage in the Hebrew scriptures “out of Egypt I called my son” Jesus must have been the son of God. If you look and see what he was quoting, Hosea 11:1 he quotes the second half of a complete sentence, the complete sentence reads: “When Israel was young I loved him and out of Egypt I called my son”. Israel the nation was considered as the son of God. Moses was told to go to Pharaoh and say to him: If you touch that nation of people, you touch my son; warning him, warning Pharaoh: don’t touch that nation, calling the nation “the son of God”. So that this is the only thing talked about in Hosea 11:1. “Out of Egypt I called my son” can only refer to the nation of Israel. I mentioned this point some months ago here in another talk, to which a young lady with us objected that Israel is a symbolic name for Jesus. You will have a hard time finding that anywhere in the Bible because it isn’t there. You can take an index of the Bible and lookup the word “Israel” everywhere the word occurs and you will find no where in any place that you can connect the word Israel with Jesus. But never mind – suppose it is true, read on, the second verse says “and after that he kept on worshipping Bal”, because this is what the Israelites were guilty of, very often they kept falling back into Idol worshipping. So if that “Israel” really meant Jesus and it means that Jesus is the son of God that came out of Egypt they must also mean that Jesus from time to time used to bow down to that idol Bal. You have to be consistent, and follow through on what it says. So the point is whoever wrote Matthew and Chapter 2 was trying to prove a point by quoting something out of context, and he undid himself, because if you follow through on it, it can not be so.

To believers of New Testament and not Old Testament – question w/example regarding OT validity?

I have heard many in R&S say that the Old Testament is not as reliable as the New Testament…to those who think this…what about how Jesus quoted from the Old Testament?

In John 6:25-59 Jesus says that it wasn’t Moses who gave the bread in the desert but God who did so, then He goes on to say that everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him will be brought to Him (Jesus), then he goes on to say that He is the bread of life…

Moses was given the bread in the desert (some of the Old Testament was written by Moses – see John 5:46), but Jesus says it came from God and not Moses In John 6.

Isn’t the bread another term for Jesus? and John refers to Jesus as the “word” – so then the bread is the Word given to Moses in the desert?

I would interpret this scripture (John 6:25-59) to mean that the Old Testament is about Jesus…and when I read the stories of the Old Testament symbolically they do take on a similar meaning for me. I see similarities with Jonah, Samson, etc….all symbolically seem like what Jesus would go through explained in the New Testament – names and circumstances different but the underlying meaning extremely similar to what happened in the life of Jesus. (ex: Jonah 3 days in the belly of the whale before being spit out (Jesus raised after 3 days), etc. – I could go on and on but only one example here)

In the desert they were given bread from heaven…symbolically they were given Jesus….they were given the Word. In John it says in the begining was the Word and the Word was made flesh (Jesus). Jesus is the Word…the Old Testament symbolically explains Jesus…throughout.

Remember that Moses placed a portion of the manna (Word) in the Ark of the Covenant (Hebrews 9:4)- we know these as the 10 commandments…and the 10 commandments are contained in the Old Testament, Exodus 20. Therefore I take this to mean that the Old Testament given to Moses in the desert came from God….in John 5:46 Jesus clearly says that Moses wrote of him. Therefore, the Torah (the five books of Moses), Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy are of God, Jesus said so in John 6. We also know that Jesus quoted Psalm, Malachi, Zachariah, and Jeremiah, also books in the Old Testament.

Does anyone else see that the Old Testament is validated in the New Testament by Jesus in the book of John?
I have seen atheists post on here saying how the OT is horrible and says horrible things, etc. and that God is not a loving God in the OT, when I see some Christians answer they may say that the OT was written by man and not all of it is valid…I disagree with this. I believe that it is valid and so is the NT…I believe that the entire OT spoke of Jesus…just not giving his name and exact circumstances. I believe that the OT should be taken symbolically. I also believe that the Hebrew meanings of names of towns and people should be considered when reading the OT in order to get the full meaning…

Why do a lot of the Bible-bashing websites complain about the vulgar language in the Old Testament?

I’ve never understand why amidst rants that have plenty of vulgar words, someone will complain that the Bible — particularly the Old Testament — uses a lot of shocking language. (Example: “….whoever shall piss against the wall.” [a reference to males]. Other famous examples are references to lascivious women lusting after men whose genitalia are compared to those of donkeys.)

Are they assuming that a “holy” book is somehow forbidden from using terms in Hebrew (which get translated into English) that are shocking? Or do they find it hard to believe that God would use language that they find upsetting? This seems odd to me because people often complain that the Bible doesn’t relate to “real life as I know it”. Wouldn’t we expect a book about life to address life as it really is and not avoid harsh realities (including the bloody carnage of ancient wars and the injustices of anarchy)?

For Christians: Have you read the Old Testament: It is the worst piece of genocidal literature ever created; hell – Hitler is nothing compared to the god and Israelities of the OT. For proof: Here is some examples (Don’t delete this question – the question will follow the examples):

And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel. And the LORD said unto Moses, ‘Take all the heads of the people and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.’” (Numbers 25:3-4)

And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.” (I Samuel 6:19)

Last example which is quite appalling;

And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain.” (Deuteronomy 2:34)

“And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Hesbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city. But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities we took for a prey to ourselves.” (Deuteronomy 3:6-7)

I can’t list all the atrocities within this “holy book”.

My question: Why do you believe in a god – jesus included – if you believe in the trinity: Why do you believe in a book that supports rape, murder, execution of people, and the overall ethnic cleansing that occured because of these Israelities?

This is only the tip of the ice berg on why I threw away Christianity and became an atheist.

Christians do you believe the Old Testament is outdated because Jesus changed the rules in the New Testament?

I find that the majority of the awful, intolerant, ridiculous things are in the old testament. Some Christians say that jesus did away with all of these evil old rules through his teachings and sacrifice. These same people will still try to hold on to some of the old testament however. For example some say that being gay is an abomination but then say that the rules condoning slavery and murder by stoning in the very same book(Leviticus)were replaced and are to be ignored now. You can’t pick and choose the ones you like. Either jesus replaced the old laws or he did not, which do you believe?
I found that there is mention against homos in the new testament but the question still stands is the old testament outdated and unimportant as far as morality goes now?
